Local writer Phil Jenkins notes today that the former appear to have taken over both Carleton University and the Ottawa Transit Committee.
The Carleton administration banned a poster during Israeli Apartheid Week and sent security to seize copies from a campus literature table. The Ottawa City Council's Transit Committee upheld a ban on OC Transpo bus ads that would have read: "There probably is no God. Now stop worrying and enjoy your life." The full City Council will be considering the matter on March 11.
(As an aside, the weasel-word "probably" is what got those ads aboard some British buses. One irritated columnist declared that from now on all transit ads claiming the existence of a supernatural being should have to insert the word "allegedly.")
This isn't Tennessee. If you are a resident, contact your city councillor forthwith.
